How to get help, what to include in a bug report, and the fastest fixes for the problems that come up most.

Join the TestFlight beta

Want to test Pocket Homelab with your own services? Request a beta invitation, or email the address above with the subject Pocket Homelab TestFlight beta. Tell me whether you use iPhone, Mac or both, and which self-hosted services you run. I’ll reply with the next steps for joining the beta.

What to include in a bug report

  1. App version and platform: Settings → Help & privacy → About shows the version (Mac: under the sidebar in Settings, and in Help → About); note iPhone or Mac and the OS version.
  2. The service involved and roughly which version of it you run.
  3. What you expected and what happened, in that order.
  4. The exact error text the app showed. Errors look like Kuma /metrics → HTTP 401 or Jellyfin: unexpected response from /Sessions (missing key); that path and status are the useful part.
  5. The result of Test connection for that service, including the advice lines under it.
  6. The request log, if something fails to load: Settings → Diagnostics → Export as text on iPhone, or Settings → Diagnostics → Open request log… on the Mac. Errors only narrows it down first.
  7. A screenshot, if the problem is visual.

The request log holds the last 500 requests since the app started: time, method, host and port, path, status or error, duration and size, with the app version and system at the top. Query strings, headers and bodies are never recorded, and path parts that look like a key are replaced with “…”. It does contain your host names; edit out any you would rather not share.

Try these first

Symptom Most likely cause
Connection refused or timed out The host is not reachable from this device. Check the URL, the server, and whether your VPN or Tailscale is up.
host not found DNS. Try the IP address to confirm.
TLS failed The certificate is not valid for that hostname.
HTTP 401 / 403 The account or token, and the permissions that token has been granted.
A service vanished from the app Its URL is empty, it is switched off, or it is Paused · Free limit.
Nothing refreshes The offline banner is showing, or Test offline mode is still on in Settings → Offline & sync (Mac: Settings → Offline).
“Health checks are stale” on Home A health source stopped answering. Tap the banner to see which one and when it last answered.
A plain http:// address fails on iPhone iOS allows plain http only on your local network. Use https://, for example with Tailscale HTTPS.
Changes are not reaching the server Check Settings → Offline & sync for queued items and retry them.

The app can only show what your account is allowed to access. Server versions, plugins and permissions all affect what an individual feature can do.

Clearing things safely

  • Clear local data (iPhone: Help & privacy; Mac: Settings → Help → Data on this device) removes cached images, offline snapshots and unsent changes. Credentials are kept.
  • Clear credentials on a service blanks its keys but keeps the URL.
  • Remove service blanks that group entirely. Nothing on the server changes.
  • Erase all settings (iPhone: the bottom of Settings; Mac: Settings → Move & Restore) deletes the whole Keychain item. Do this before uninstalling if you want the credentials gone, because Keychain items can outlive the app. To keep a copy first, use Move to another device (under Move & restore on both), which exports everything sealed behind a passphrase.
  • Clear in Settings → Diagnostics empties the request log. It lives in memory only and is gone when the app quits anyway.

Purchases

Purchases go through your Apple Account. Use Restore Purchases on the Pro screen after a reinstall or on a new device, and Manage Subscriptions to cancel or change plan. Erasing app settings does not cancel a subscription.

Settings → Support Pocket Homelab (Mac: Settings → Support) offers optional tips. They are one-time purchases that don’t unlock Pro or change your plan.
