The iPhone app

Home, tabs, the floating buttons, search, widgets and Shortcuts, offline mode and Settings. How Pocket Homelab is laid out on iPhone.

The iPhone app is built around four ideas: a dashboard you arrange yourself, a tab bar you choose, a search sheet that reaches everything, and floating buttons in the corner: a + for the two or three things you do constantly and, beside it, a round button with the actions of the screen you are on. Widgets and Shortcuts carry some of it outside the app.

Things that apply everywhere

  • Background polling refreshes the dashboard every 30 seconds while the app is active and online, whatever tab you are on, so a screen you push is already warm. Low Power Mode and Low Data Mode each double the wait, and a service that keeps failing is asked less often while its last value stays on screen.
  • Pull down on any root tab: a short pull arms search, a longer pull arms refresh.
  • Offline, the tab bar collapses to Home, Podcasts and Settings, a banner appears, and Home lists what you have downloaded. Writes you make are queued and replayed when the servers are reachable again.
  • Long-press a card for Edit dashboard, Edit card and Hide card, and Notes about this when your Nextcloud has the Notes app.
  • Settings → Diagnostics lists the last 500 requests (host, path, status and timing only) for when something does not load.

Settings at a glance

Settings is one list. The services come first, then everything that applies to the whole app:

Section Rows
(top) Upgrade to Pro, Your plan once you own Pro, or Choose free services when more than three are connected on the free plan. See Free and Pro.
Your services Services, with how many of them are active, then a row for each service that has settings of its own, named like its tab and shown only while that tab exists: Photos (what Photos opens on, Recent or On This Day), Notes (folders, Quick Notes, the daily note and the hold speed of the floating buttons) and Podcasts (automatic downloads with PinePods, and podcast notes).
App Theme, App icon, App badge, Home layout, Tabs, Quick action button and Screen action buttons.
Storage & sync Downloads, with the space they use, and Offline & sync, with how many changes wait.
Move & restore Import configuration and Move to another device. See Connect your services.
Help Help & privacy, Support Pocket Homelab and Diagnostics.

Erase all settings stands on its own at the bottom. It removes the saved addresses and credentials from this device; nothing is deleted from your servers.
