Firefly Pico
Transaction templates that power the Add Transaction assistant, managed and matched by name, alias or prefix.

Firefly Pico is a small companion assistant for Firefly III that stores reusable transaction templates: a name, a default amount, accounts, a category, tags and aliases. Pocket Homelab uses it to power Firefly’s Add Transaction assistant: type a template name and an amount, and the rest fills in from the template.
What you get
- Templates list inside the Add Transaction sheet, sorted most-used first. Tap a template to put its name in the field; right-click or long-press for Use in Assistant, Add with Defaults (templates with a default amount, posted at once with the saved defaults) and Open Firefly Pico.
- Always something to pick: when the typed line matches no template, the list shows the templates whose name
matches what you typed, or all of them. Picking one keeps your words and moves the amount to the front, so a

Open it from Manage templates on the iPhone Money screen, from More → Manage templates in the Mac Money bar, or from ⋯ → Manage templates in Add Transaction.
- No Home row, tab, quick action or Spotlight entry of its own, everything Pico does surfaces through Firefly’s Money screens.
Set up
Pico needs the Firefly III token as well as its own URL, templates reference Firefly tags, categories and accounts, so one without the other doesn’t work. Both go in Settings → Services → Money.

On iPhone
Pico Templates is a list with New template at the top and a Find a template search field. Tap a template to edit it; swipe or long-press to delete it.
On Mac
Pico Templates has a bar with the template count, a Find a template field, refresh and New Template, then one card per template with its name and description. Click a card to edit the template; right-click for Edit template and Delete template.
Actions
- Create, edit or delete a transaction template (name, type, description, default amount, accounts, category, tags, aliases, notes). The template’s budget, if any, is preserved but not editable from the app. Deleting a template leaves the transactions made with it unchanged.
Works with
- Firefly III, templates are matched by name, alias or unambiguous prefix in the Add Transaction field, and every posted transaction goes to the same Firefly ledger.
- LubeLogger, vehicle fuel and expense entries can create a Firefly payment from a Pico withdrawal template.
- Nextcloud Notes, Make this line a transaction… sends a note’s line to Add Transaction, where a template decides the account and the category.
Tips & troubleshooting
- Two templates that share an exact-match name are treated as ambiguous and resolve to nothing, rename one of them.
- Saving a template replaces its entire tag and alias list, not just the fields you touched, that’s why the editor always loads the full record first.
