AdventureLog
Your travels from AdventureLog: countries, regions and cities visited, the trip under way and the next one on the Home dashboard, your trips with their places, flights and stays, and every place on a map.
iPhoneMacOn this page
AdventureLog is a self-hosted travel log: the places you have been and plan to go, grouped into trips with their flights, stays, notes and checklists, and a world map of the countries, regions and cities you have visited. Pocket Homelab reads it and shows it; it changes nothing on the server.
What you get
- Home tile “Travel” (orange airplane): the trip under way with its last day, or the next trip with a
countdown (
In 39 days · Amsterdam in November · 12–16 Nov); the countries visited when nothing is planned. - Home header option “Next trip”. Show on this card (in Settings → Home layout) switches the tile or header to Countries visited (with regions and cities) or Places visited (of all places, with the number of trips).
- A Travel tab (off by default; Settings → Tabs) and a Spotlight entry “Travel”.
- Mac: Travel in the sidebar under Workspace, and a Travel widget for Home with the headline, the four counts and, when it is wide, the next flights, stays and visits.
- No issue chip, no notifications.
Set up
- In AdventureLog, open Settings → Security, give a key a name and Create Key. Copy it: it is shown once.
- In Pocket Homelab: Settings → Services → AdventureLog, paste the base URL and the key, then Test connection. It reads the dashboard and answers with the countries, places and trips.
| Key | Field | Required | Secret | Where to get it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
ADVENTURELOG_URL | AdventureLog URL | Required | — | Base address of your AdventureLog server. Leave empty to hide it. |
ADVENTURELOG_API_KEY | AdventureLog API key | Required | — | An API key from AdventureLog → Settings → Security. Stored in the Keychain. |
On iPhone
- The map first: every place you logged, a green pin for a visited one and an orange pin for a planned one, with the counts (countries, regions, cities, places) floating over its foot. The expand button opens the map full screen; there a tap on a pin shows the place above it, with Open to its page.
- Next trip (or Under way): the trip as a wide card with its picture, or a colour of its own, the countdown as a badge, the name, the dates, the number of days and places. Tap it for the trip’s page.
- Coming up: the next weeks’ flights, stays and visits from AdventureLog’s calendar.
- Trips: picture cards in a row you scroll sideways, under way first, then the upcoming ones soonest first, the past ones latest first, folders at the end; each with its dates, places and a countdown badge. All lists every trip with a search.
- Places: rows with the picture or the category in a square, the name, where, the last visit and the rating; All adds a Visited only switch. The search at the top filters places and trips.
- Countries: how many you have visited and their flags; the page lists each with its regions visited as a bar, and can show every country the server knows.
- A trip’s page: the same wide card on top, the description, then cards for its places (map and rows), Getting there (flights, trains, drives with their times and codes), Staying at, the notes and the checklists with what is done, and the links as buttons.
- A place’s page: the picture as a wide card with the name, where it is, and the category, rating and last visit as chips (a Visited or Planned badge in the corner), the map, About, the visits with their dates and notes, the other pictures, then the website, Open in Maps, Open in AdventureLog, Mark as visited today and Delete place.
On Mac
The Travel workspace: a bar on top with the counts, a search field, Refresh and Open AdventureLog. The main pane holds the map of every place with the counts over its foot, the trips as picture cards in a grid, and the places as rows; the column at the right holds the next trip (or the one under way) as a wide card, Coming up, and the countries with their regions visited as bars. A click on a pin shows the place above it, with Open to its page. A trip or a place opens as a page in the workspace, and the map opens in a window of its own.
A trip’s page on the Mac is a list beside a map:
- At the left: the trip’s picture, name, dates, its days, places and places visited, the description, Open in AdventureLog and the link; then the places as rows, Getting there, Staying at, the notes and the checklists.
- At the right: the map of the trip’s places, as tall as the window, with the zoom buttons, the number visited and planned, and Show All to fit every place again. Hover a pin for its name.
- Click a row and the map flies to the place; click a pin and its row is selected in the list. Either way the place shows as a card over the foot of the map, with Open and Open in Maps.
- Double-click a row to open the place’s page; right-click it for Open in Maps, Mark as Visited Today and Delete….
Actions
- Add a place: + on the phone, Add Place on the Mac. Name and where; Find on the map looks the
name or address up and drops the pin (the search runs through Apple Maps), or tap the map to place it; a
category from your list or a new one with an icon; Visited with the day, or a stay of days, and notes;
the trip it belongs to; a rating, a description and a link. Add creates it in AdventureLog
(
POST /api/locations/) and the screen reloads. - Mark as visited today: on a planned place’s page, or by holding its row (right-click on the Mac). Adds a
visit dated today (
POST /api/visits/). - Delete a place: at the bottom of its page, or by holding its row; asked to confirm. The place goes from
AdventureLog with its visits and pictures (
DELETE /api/locations/<id>/). - Changes go to the server at once with your key; with the server out of reach they fail with a message rather than wait in the offline outbox. Nothing is changed on the server otherwise.
Works with
- Dawarich records where you were; AdventureLog is where you write it up. The two are separate tabs; nothing is copied between them.
Tips & troubleshooting
- Test connection says 401 or 403: the key must be an AdventureLog API key from Settings → Security
(
al_…), not your password. A revoked key stops at once. - Pictures do not load: AdventureLog serves them through its own media route, which needs the key; the app sends it in a header. Pictures kept in Immich through AdventureLog’s integration come through AdventureLog too.
- The counts and the server’s profile page differ: the app shows the dashboard’s counts (countries are the ones with a visited region, places are the ones with a past visit). The web app’s profile counts the same way.
- Add says the sample is read-only: the sample workspace refuses every change; connect your own server.
- No places on the map: a place without coordinates (added by name only) is in the list but not on the map.
