Music, audiobooks and podcasts

Music (Navidrome), Audiobooks (Audiobookshelf) and Podcasts (PinePods) share one player. What is playing shows in a bar above the bottom bar; tap it for the full player with the queue, speed, chapters and the sleep timer.

  • In the background. Playback goes on when you leave the app or lock the phone. The notification and the lock screen show the title and cover with their controls.
  • Headset, Bluetooth and car buttons work. Next and previous move through a music queue; in a book or an episode they skip forward 30 seconds and back 15.
  • Sleep timer. 15, 30, 45 or 60 minutes, the end of the chapter, or the end of the book or episode.
  • Gapless. The next song is loaded while this one plays, and a book split over several files plays through without a gap.
  • Interruptions. A call or another app playing sound pauses it, a short notification sound only lowers music for a moment, and unplugging headphones pauses it.

Your servers hear what you play, as from the iPhone: Navidrome gets scrobbles, Audiobookshelf the listening session and progress every 10 seconds, PinePods the position and the played mark when an episode ends.

Video

Watch plays Jellyfin movies and episodes full screen, from where you left off.

  • Subtitles: every text track Jellyfin has, with a timing shift. Your pick is remembered per item and by language.
  • Audio track, quality and speed menus.
  • Next up: at the end of an episode the next one is offered with a 10-second countdown.
  • Progress goes to Jellyfin when playback starts, every 10 seconds, on pause and after a seek, so Continue Watching is up to date on every device.

Only one thing plays at a time: starting a video pauses the audio player, and the other way round.

Files kept on the phone

Documents, files, photos and books you open or download (a Paperless PDF, a Nextcloud file, an Immich original) are kept in the app until you remove them. Cloud → ⋯ → Downloaded files lists every kept file, with Open with…, Share, Save to Downloads and Remove, and Remove all. Removing one deletes only the copy on the phone; the file stays on your server. Android may also clear these copies when storage runs low.

Changes that wait to sync

When a server cannot be reached, some changes are kept on the phone and sent later instead of being lost:

Change Service
A new task Nextcloud Tasks
A new transaction Firefly III
A new, edited or deleted record LubeLogger

A new task shows in its list straight away, marked Waiting to sync. Your task lists and Firefly templates are kept on the phone, so you can add these offline too.

Waiting changes are sent when the app starts, when the network comes back, when you return to the app, and in the background about every 15 minutes while something waits and there is a network. More → Settings → Offline changes shows how many wait and when the last ones went out, with Sync now. Open it to see each change, with Retry for one that needs attention and Discard to drop one without sending it.
