Widgets and shortcuts
Right Now, Downloads and AdGuard widgets for the Android home screen, the long-press shortcuts on the app icon, and pockethomelab links.
AndroidOn this page
Three home-screen widgets, a set of shortcuts on the app icon and pockethomelab:// links reach the app from
outside. None of them need Pro: they follow your services, so the free plan’s three get all of them.
Widgets
- Touch and hold an empty spot on the home screen and choose Widgets. (The wording depends on your launcher.)
- Find Pocket Homelab in the list.
- Drag Right Now, Downloads or AdGuard onto the home screen. All three can be resized.
| Widget | Shows | A tap |
|---|---|---|
| Right Now | Server, NAS, downloads and monitors, one line each, and how old the numbers are. A degraded NAS or a monitor that is down is shown in the alert colour, with the names of the monitors that are down underneath. | Opens Home. |
| Downloads | How many downloads are active and their total speed, “idle”, or “No download client”. | Opens Downloads. |
| AdGuard | Protecting or Paused, with “Tap to pause 30 min” or “Tap to protect”. | Pauses AdGuard Home for 30 minutes, or turns protection back on. |
With none of those services set up, Right Now says “Add a server, downloads or Uptime Kuma to see them here.” Before the app has run once, Right Now and Downloads say “Open Pocket Homelab once”.
The AdGuard switch is the one exception that changes something, and it does not run in the widget: a tap hands the switch to the app in the background, which waits for a network, asks AdGuard for its current state, changes it, refreshes the widgets and shows a short message with the result.
Launcher shortcuts
Touch and hold the Pocket Homelab icon for its shortcuts. Drag one onto the home screen to pin it. Only the shortcuts whose service is set up (and active on the free plan) are offered; the list updates after Home has loaded.
| Shortcut | What it does | Needs |
|---|---|---|
| Add transaction | Opens a new Firefly transaction. | Firefly III |
| New task | Opens Tasks. | Nextcloud |
| Search | Opens web search; without SearXNG, Discover. | SearXNG or Jellyseerr |
| Resume watching | Opens Watch. | Jellyfin |
| New note | Opens a new note. | Nextcloud Notes |
| Toggle AdGuard | Pauses AdGuard Home for 30 minutes, or resumes it, without opening the app. | AdGuard Home |
| Homelab status | What the widgets know, in a sentence and one line per service, with how old it is. | always |
Most launchers show four or five shortcuts at most; they come in the order above.
Links
The same two kinds of link as on iPhone open the app, from a web page, a note or another app:
pockethomelab://tab/<tab>opens a screen. Home, Discover, Watch and Downloads switch the bottom bar; any other screen opens in a sheet with Done.pockethomelab://tab/settingsopens More.pockethomelab://action/<action>opens what that action is about.
The tab and action names are the iPhone’s, so one link works on both; see
Links for the list. On Android most actions open their screen:
newTask opens Tasks, searchPhotos opens Photos, resumeWatching opens Watch. These three open a sheet of their
own:
| Action link | Opens |
|---|---|
addTransaction |
A new Firefly transaction. |
newNote, appendDailyNote |
A new note in Nextcloud Notes. |
status |
Homelab status. |
newNote and status are Android only; on iPhone, use dailyNote and the Homelab Status shortcut.
A link whose service is not set up, or is paused on the free plan, opens nothing. Because any page or app can open a link, a link only ever shows something: AdGuard cannot be switched by a link. The Toggle AdGuard shortcut works because only the launcher, acting for Pocket Homelab, can start it.
